7th Grade Government

Grades: 7th 

Advisor: Ms. Bonvetti

Meeting Location & Time: Cafeteria every Monday after school from 2:35 - 3:30pm


Student Government is open to any 7th grade student who would like to join. Members come together to brainstorm and plan activities for the entire 7th grade. Activities include but are not limited to: Spirit Week, Red Ribbon Week, Snowflake Dance, Spirit Fridays, AHS Open House, Cotillion, Spirit Cheering Sections at sporting events, fundraisers and other fun events such as scavenger hunts, movie nights and volunteer opportunities in the community. Student Government members are prominent leaders in the grade and work together to make decisions that will benefit the grade level as a whole provide a connected, inclusive environment for our students.



8th Grade Government

Grades: 8th 

Advisor: Ms. Warren

Meeting Location & Time:  Cafeteria every Monday after school from 2:35-3:30pm


Members come together to brainstorm and plan activities for the entire 8th grade.  Activities include but are not limited to: Spirit Week hallway decorating, Tall Pines trip, setting up and running 2 middle school dances,  t-shirt fundraiser and individual fundraisers. Student Government members are prominent leaders in the grade and work together to make decisions that will benefit the grade level as a whole provide a connected, inclusive environment for our students.



9th Grade Government

Grades: 9th

Meeting Location & Time: Meetings are the first Tuesday of every month, from 2:45-3:15pm


Class officers are responsible for creating a committee for decorating, pep rallies and class fundraisers.  They are responsible for relaying messages to their classmates for important events, creating and running fundraisers and any other events that take place throughout the school year.  



10th Grade Government

Grades: 10th 

Advisor: Mrs. Bulskis

Meeting Location & Time: Meetings as needed in room B104


Sophomore Class Officers are appointed by their fellow students.  They help to plan and solicit volunteers to decorate the 10th grade hallway for Spirit Week as well as assist during 10th grade class assemblies for class ring sales and for the Baltimore Trip. 



11th Grade Government

Grades: 11th 

Advisor: Mr. Niglio

Meeting Location & Time: Last Thursday of each month in B207 or Google Classroom. Other dates depend upon fundraisers/events


Officers are elected by fellow students and help to organize fundraisers for both their class and the school such as flower grams, take leadership during Spirit Week and Pep Rallies, and assist with class ring distribution. 



12th Grade Government

Grades: 12th 

Advisor: Mr. Tomasetti

Meeting Location & Time: Every other Tuesday during 6th period lunch  in the Principal’s Conference room.


Senior Council is responsible for senior class activities including Mr. Audubon, Senior T-shirt design and sales, Senior trip organization, Senior trip T-shirt design and sales, Yankee Candle Fundraiser and Senior Farewell. Students are elected junior year to become members during their senior year.  During junior year, the elected members need to help out at Senior Farewell and Graduation. 



Academic Challange

Grades: 7-12 

Advisor: Mr. Rowan

Meeting Location & Time: Practice begins in December

 after school in the library.  Matches occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays in January and February after school in the library and at other schools. 


A classic College Knowledge competition among our conference and other schools. Teams of four buzz in to answer questions about history, science, math, literature, current events, and other topics. Love Jeopardy? Then Academic Challenge is for you!

 


Civics Club

Grades: 7-12 

Advisor: Mr. Cosenza & Mr. Webb

Meeting Location & Time: Third Friday of the month from 2:40-3:30pm in room A207


The Civics Club gives students the opportunity to develop skills as a researcher, writer and public speaker.  The students will choose a topic related to the U.S. Constitution, develop a speech to use during competition against other members in hopes of being chosen for the local competition at the Murray Troutt Post 262 in Audubon. The students have the opportunity to win scholarship money of up to $4,500 at the state level and even more if they were to qualify for nationals.  In our first two years we have had TWO DIFFERENT students win $1,600 in scholarships and place in the top 5 in the state!



Chess Club

Grades: 7-12 

Advisor: Mr. Webb

Meeting Location & Time: Practice every Wednesday at 2:45pm in B105, once a week competitions during the season December through February.


Chess helps develop critical thinking skills in an atmosphere of competition and camaraderie. We want all players: novices, experts, even those who have never played. We will train you! Practice begins in September.   League competition in the SJHS Chess League from November through March will sharpen your skills! In the spring, we shift back to practice but take it on the road to the elementary schools to train the next generation.  Come join the award winning AHS Chess Team. Go Green Knights!



Choral Ensemble

Grades: 9-12 

Advisor: Mrs. Swinney

Meeting Location & Time: In the Choir Room Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00-8:00pm from September-December and from March-May.  Evening performance events are scheduled throughout the year.


The Choral Ensemble is a singing group that is selected by audition from within the Senior High Concert  Choir. This group meets outside of school hours and traditionally studies and performs music of a higher achievement level than the Concert Choir, along with more Pop-­like entertaining music for performance within the community for special events.  The students are expected to be prepared for rehearsals, in that the music is usually of a more difficult level and is to be learned in a shorter period of time. Members are expected to attend all events and performances that are scheduled in the surrounding communities throughout the year.



Consumer Bowl

Grades: 9-12 

Advisor: Ms. Waite

Meeting Location & Time: First and third Mondays, late October in room A2 - until we are eliminated from competition; 2:45-3:30pm


The Consumer Bowl is a game show style competition for high school students across the state.  It was established by the NJ Department of Consumer Affairs to educate young adults on a variety of consumer issues.  The first round of competition (county level) usually takes place late February - early March. Participants in the competition will have to prepare on their own as well as attend coaching sessions at our twice monthly meetings.



Educational Media Services (EMS)

Grades: 7-12 

Advisor: Mr. Latham

Meeting Location & Time: Everyday beginning August 25th - June 20th(day after graduation) in the HS Auditorium


The purpose of the EMS club is to facilitate the use of educational technology involving audio and visual mediums by faculty and students.  The EMS club runs the video, sound and lighting for all performances and events throughout the school year. EMS also records and edits videos of each event. This club meets everyday in homeroom and after school to work on maintenance of our equipment, plan events, setup/breakdown equipment, and edit performance video. 



Environmental Club

Grades: 7-12 

Advisor: Mr. Webb

Meeting Location & Time: Every Thursday, 2:45-4:00pm in room B105 unless precluded by building or district calendar events or holidays 


Help train students of today to be good stewards of the Earth tomorrow.  We work on the AHS campus and in the Audubon community planting and maintaining gardens and landscapes, the Green Wave Green House, green spaces, wildlife habitats and recycling programs. We work with the Audubon borough on major environmental projects throughout the town once a month.



French Club

Grades: 8-12 

Advisor: Ms. Georgel

Meeting Location & Time: 2nd and 4th Monday of the month from 2:35-3:30pm in room B101


The Audubon High School French Club was established to help foster the awareness of the French language and culture. Its main purpose is to promote enthusiasm among students for the French language and culture and to provide a friendly way to approach a new language. The club encourages  fellowship within the organization and with other French speakers through a variety of activities. Students interested in the French speaking world are welcome to attend.  Open to any student taking or taken French 1,2,3,4 and AP. 



Gay Straight Alliance (GSA)

Grades: 7-12 

Advisor: Mrs. Scotto

Meeting Location & Time: The third Wednesday of each month in room A122 at 2:45pm


The Mission of the Audubon Jr/Sr High School Gender & Sexuality Alliance (GSA) is to provide support, education and to empower students to demonstrate acceptance and awareness.  The GSA Club is a student-led group that strives to bring together LGBTQIA+ and straight students to support one another in a safe environment. The GSA Club will accomplish this goal by utilizing educational programs and it will promote unity in the Audubon community through posters, t-shirts and other promotional items.  It is not the intention of the GSA Club to change opinions or to force beliefs but instead to reduce hated and discrimination. The goal is to end the spread of homophobia and related harassment and to facilitate unity and embrace diversity within the Audubon community.


GSA provides education to AHS staff and student and help co-host the Day of Silence, host Night of Noise, attend the LGBTQIA+ Youth Summit at Rutgers and also participate in fundraisers such as a flower sale and LGBTQIA+ t-shirts.



Interact Club

Grades: 7-8 & 9-12 

Advisor: Mrs. Willis

Meeting Location & Time: Every Tuesday morning during homeroom in the Cafeteria


Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club.  The program gives young people an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends.  "Interact" stands for "international action." Our motto is "Service Above Self."

   Some of the yearly activities are as follows:

   -Breast Cancer Walk

   -Collecting gently used coats, scarves and hats for those in need.

   -Making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for Cathedral Kitchen in Camden.

   -Ronald McDonald House - organizing and participating in activities with the children

   -Mothers Matter - collecting toiletries to donate as well as going to the facility and assisting with the organization and assembly of baskets

   - Hour of Power Walk - fundraiser for M.D.

   -Volleyball Tournament - fundraiser for Autism

 -Weekly sale of soft pretzels after school



Indoor Percussion Ensemble

Grades: 7-12 

Advisor: Mr. Latham

Meeting Location & Time: December through May: Every Thursday evening 6:30-9:00pm and two Saturdays per month 10:00am-2:00pm in the band room


The Indoor Percussion Ensemble is not only educationally sound, it can have a dramatic and positive influence on the total band program. The goals for the program are:

To learn how to play percussion instruments and perform

To strive for excellence

To develop teamwork

To learn sportsmanship

To entertain

Indoor percussion has become a completely unique activity that combines many of the best elements of a jazz band, symphonic ensemble, marching band, theater production, stage musicals, and sports team. These multiple influences combine to create a completely unique performing arts experience. Thus, indoor percussion is a blend of multiple co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that produces “The Sport of the Arts.”



Jazz Band

Grades: 9-12 

Advisor: Mr. Collazzo & Mr. Webb

Meeting Location & Time: Meets in the band room once or twice a week, usually Tuesday or Thursday evenings from 7:00-8:45pm and runs weekly from the beginning of January through early May 


Jazz Band is open to students from the band program who play Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone/Baritone, Piano, Drum Set/Percussion, Bass, and Guitar.  Students eligible are in grades 9-12, but some JH students are eligible by invitation only. Students who play the rhythm section instruments (Drum set, Bass, Guitar, Piano) will most likely have to audition for spots in the group in January.  Brass and Woodwind members are usually accepted by registration. Registration will occur in late December, early January and will be announced to all students in the band program during band class. The Jazz Band performs traditional jazz big band music, and performs at the Annual Pops Concert in May along with any other local school performances by request.  



Marching Band & Color Guard

Grades: 7-12 

Advisor: Mr. Wallowitch

Meeting Location & Time: Summer (June/July): Wednesday evening rehearsals (6:30-9:00pm) to prepare for the 4th of July parade. After this event we continue to have Wednesday rehearsals until our 2 weeks of band camp 

(Monday-Thursday All Day) during the first 2 full weeks of August.

Regular Season (August-November): After band camp during  competitive season schedule of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday rehearsals (6:30-9:00pm) and all day Saturdays for football games and competitions. Championships in Oct/Nov are typically held on Sundays. 


This activity is unlike any other team sport, and yes the marching band and color guard are varsity level sports. We work together to learn parade routines and stand tunes for football games, but we primarily work on our competitive field show. The design team picks a show theme, creates a routine that helps portray the theme, and then brings the band to competitions to get adjudicated and scored against other high school marching bands. The band has had back to back record breaking competitive seasons with their past 2 productions and look forward to growing competitively in the upcoming years!


Being a member of the marching band or color guard teaches hard work, attention to detail, excellence, leadership and team building skills. There are no substitutes or members on the bench. Each student is giving 100% for the full performance, and the band can not function without the talent and dedication of each individual performer. It is an extremely unique and rewarding activity that everyone is welcome to join! We hope to see you next season!



National Junior Honor Society

Grades: 7-8

The National Junior Honor Society is one of the highest honors that a junior high student can receive, as this is a nationally recognized, prestigious program. Students in grades 7 who have achieved a 94.0 grade point average or better, have attended Audubon Jr-Sr High School for a minimum of one semester, AND have demonstrated significant character, citizenship, leadership and service are eligible for consideration at the conclusion of the second marking period. Students who meet the academic criteria must provide additional information to the Faculty Council for membership consideration. The Induction Ceremony for students in grade 7 is held in the spring of each year. Inducted students are eligible to participate through grade 8, provided that they uphold the five pillars of scholarship, character, leadership, citizenship and service. General meetings are held approximately two times per month before school. Members are responsible for completing Individual Service Projects, community service hours and group service projects throughout the year. 





National Honor Society

Grades: 9-12

Membership in the Audubon Chapter of the National Honor Society is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a student. Selection to the Society recognizes not only outstanding scholastic achievement, but also the qualities of leadership, character, and service.  As in the past, all applicants to the National Honor Society will be required to meet the established criteria for the aforementioned qualities. Consideration for membership in the National Honor Society will be determined from a pool of eligible candidates who will be evaluated by the criteria listed in each of the following areas:

Academics:

a. Consistency of performance

b. Grade point average-96.0 minimum

c. Strength of schedule

Character: The candidate consistently exemplifies the qualities of honesty, reliability, friendliness, courtesy and respect.

Leadership: The candidate is viewed as a positive role model through his/her involvement in the school community and has demonstrated the ability to share responsibility with others.

Service: The candidate participates enthusiastically in school and community related programs, committees, and activities on a volunteer basis.



The Parrot & Published Minds

Grades: 7-12

Advisor: Mrs. Pitt 

Meeting Location & Time: We meet as a class every day. However, some students opt to be part of The Parrot or The Published Mind (Creative Pieces) by taking it as an Independent Study or by submitting their work (both news stories and creative works) to our email: audubonjournalism@audubonschools.org


Every week, students write articles for our school publication, The Parrot. Each student is in charge of whatever section they've chosen to lead. Sections are created based off of what students' talents are that year, so we mold the paper based on their abilities and interests. We're always open to fresh new ideas! For the Published Mind, which we now feature as a section on The Parrot every week under the title "Creative Pieces," students are welcome to submit their creative works. We take everything: stories, poems, and artwork of all varieties, videos, audios, etc; whatever talent students have, we showcase it in the Creative Pieces section. All students, 7-12, registered for the course or not, are welcomed to submit their work and be part of our publication.



Peer to Peer

Grades: 7-8 

Advisor: Ms. Bonvetti & Mrs. VanFossen

Meeting Location & Time: We meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays in room A3


Peer to Peer is a statewide peer leadership and mentor program for middle school students designed to increase awareness of substance abuse, bullying and risky behavior.  The first part of the year is spent on team building, education, communication and facilitation. Then peer leaders lead interactive, activity-based outreach sessions with students at Haviland and Mansion Avenue schools that address important challenges.  Students are recommended by their teachers at the end of 6th and 7th grade. 







Project Memorial

Grades: 9-12

Project Memorial is an Audubon tradition that recognizes veterans who have served the nation and given the ultimate sacrifice.  The committee hosts a ceremony to honor six local veterans every year during the week prior to Memorial Day. The committee also raises funds throughout  the year for a scholarship awarded at the June Graduation Ceremony. Helping in this community event is an excellent way to show your thanks to our local veterans and dedication to your school and community. 



Prom Committee

Grades: 9-12 

Advisor: Mrs. Bulskis

Meeting Location & Time: Jan. 10 & 17, April 24 at 7:40am in Room B104; April 27 - favor assembly, April 28 - favor delivery (after school)


The committee plans the prom theme, song, colors, favors, tickets, and menu. The committee assists at the prom parent meetings and with ticket sales.  They also assemble the favors, and deliver them to the venue two days before the event.



Roots & Shoots

Grades: 7-12

Meeting Location & Time: Tuesdays 2:45-4:00pm in room A217


Roots & Shoots, a program of the Jane Goodall Institute, is a global movement of youth just like you who are empowered to use their voice and actions to make compassionate decisions, influencing and leading change in their communities.

As students you have the power to create change.  The time is now to speak up and take action on issues that matter most to you. Together, we can create and influence the change that is needed in your community and our world.  No matter the issue, being a part of Roots & Shoots means choosing to be a change-maker and making the difference YOU want to make. What do we do? Students generate service projects based on a student’s passion. I provide opportunities for students to have a voice to make a positive change in the school, their communities, and even the world.

Spanish National Honor Society

Grades: 7-12 

Advisor: Mrs. Fisher

Meeting Location & Time: B103 TBD


The name of this organization is the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, also known as the Spanish National Honor Society. The purpose of the Society is to recognize high achievement in Spanish and Portuguese by students of secondary schools and to promote continuity of interest in Hispanic studies. The Society is classified as a national and international academic honor society in the study of high school Spanish and Portuguese and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, Inc. (AATSP)  A regularly enrolled student of a secondary school (grades 9-12) who has maintained an A average in the study of Spanish for at least five semesters and has a B average overall is eligible for membership in the Society. Character, leadership, seriousness of purpose, cooperation, honesty, service and commitment to others is also criteria for selection into the Society. The student must be enrolled in the study of the language at the time of initiation.



Spring Musical

Grades: 9-12 

Advisor: Mrs. Swinney & Ms. Waite

Meeting Location & Time: Auditions - November.  Mondays through Thursdays 2:45-6:00pm from January-March with additional dress and tech rehearsals.


The Spring Musical is a full scale production of a Broadway style show where the main roles are determined by an audition process.  All who try out for the show automatically become cast members. Auditions are traditionally held in November and the main rehearsals are scheduled on Monday to Thursday from 2:45–6:00pm beginning in January and culminating with three performances during the first or second week of March. Rehearsals are also routinely held on Martin Luther King and Presidents Day from 10:00am-3:00pm, as well as the Saturday before the show from 10:00am-3:00pm.  Dress rehearsals are held from 4:00pm-11:00pm on the Monday and Tuesday of the week of the show. All cast members are expected to participate in various fund raising activities to help pay the cost of producing a full scale musical. The production is staffed by a BOE approved director, ­ BOE approved producer and any other staff assigned by the producer and director.



S.T.A.R.S (Students and Teachers Against Racism and Stereotypes)

Grades: 9-12 

Advisor: Mrs. Mueller

Meeting Location & Time: Every Friday in the cafeteria during homeroom unless previously announced that a meeting is not necessary or something is happening in homeroom that cannot be missed. 


Students thrive socially and academically in inclusive schools.  Unfortunately, schools can be places of exclusion for many students because of teenagers who bully and ostracize those who are different.  S.T.A.R.S. is a club whose goal is to mold Audubon district into a more tolerant and accepting place for all students. At meetings, we discuss the problems of prejudices and ways to advocate for all students, regardless of race, religion, or creed.  Every November, STARS sponsors Mix­it­up Day, a time for students to sit at different tables during lunch to meet and learn about students in different social groups. Additionally, we visit Haviland Elementary School annually in February to teach a lesson  on acceptance and tolerance. Students are also given a chance to participate in the Day of Silence held in April.



Student Council

The Audubon High School Student Council, under its Constitution ratified February 17, 1982, is an equal representative body consisting of fellow students. Occupying a central position of importance within the school, with its influence felt in all phases of student life, the purpose of this organization is to provide a working relationship with the Administration, Faculty, and Board of Education, while encouraging growth in both citizenship and leadership.


Along with this the Student Council offers many community service projects – such as the Thanksgiving Food Drive, Senior Citizens’ Spring and Winter Socials. Student-offered activities include dances, Homecoming festivities, the Winter Ball, the Junior vs. Senior Powderpuff Game, Pep Rallies, and Spirit Week.


It is the duty of all the students to select their representatives wisely and actively support all Student Council activities.


General meetings, run under Parliamentary procedure, are held once monthly. (Thus, students are offered a chance with their representatives and officers, to make recommendations for student rights.)



Teens to Teens

Grades: 9-12 

Advisor: Mrs. VanFossen

Meeting Location & Time: New Student Orientation in the cafeteria


Teens to Teens members are mentors for our younger students and our new AHS students.  They give student tours during New Student Orientation and throughout the school year when we have new students.  T2T members are extremely important as they help to alleviate anxiety students feel when starting at a new school.  They help new students navigate the building and they answer questions to create a comfortable environment.



Weight Room

Grades: 7-12 

Advisor: Mr. Harris

Meeting Location & Time: Every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00-4:30pm in the weight room 


 Students are able to use the fitness room and get assistance and instruction as needed.  They have use of the weights, treadmills, elliptical machines, and stationary bicycles.
